About Steve Rogers and Great Bear Ironworks
Welcome to Great Bear Ironworks, where metal becomes art and nature’s spirit is captured in every piece. Founded by Steve Rogers, a seasoned Journeyman Blacksmith, our company specializes in creating large-scale animal sculpturesusing the unique technique of negative space. Our work blends artistry and craftsmanship, with each sculpture reflecting the raw beauty and power of the natural world.
Steve’s journey in blacksmithing began at the renowned Hereford School of Blacksmithing in England, where he developed his skills under the guidance of master blacksmiths. Over the years, Steve has worked with globally respected smiths such as Alan Dawson and Adrian Legge, gaining centuries-old techniques passed down through generations. With over 25 years of experience in creative industries, Steve has worked across multiple mediums, but his true passion lies in shaping metal to honor and connect with the environment.
At Great Bear Ironworks, we believe that art should not only be seen, but felt. Our sculptures are more than just representations of animals—they are explorations of space itself. The use of negative space in our designs invites the viewer to experience the absence as much as the presence, creating a dynamic interaction between the sculpture and its environment. Each piece is designed not only to be admired but to engage the space around it, drawing attention to the relationship between the artwork, the viewer, and the natural world.
This creative process allows for the exploration of both form and space, giving our sculptures a sense of life and movement. The balance between presence and absence reflects the delicate harmony found in nature, inviting contemplation of how we interact with and shape the world around us.
At Great Bear Ironworks, our work strives to deepen the connection between people and the environment, sparking appreciation for the intricate ecosystems we share and the importance of protecting them. Through our sculptures, we aim to create lasting impressions that encourage a deeper reflection on the world around us. Every piece is not just an artistic creation, but a call to respect and preserve the environment for future generations.
