Fiddlehead Sculpture

Fiddlehead Sculptures – Private Commission

Commissioned by a private collector, Great Bear Ironworks created two opposing fiddleheads in Corten steel, standing 8 feet high and mounted on a steel base. These sculptures symbolize the natural elegance of life’s cyclical processes, capturing the perfect unwinding flow of new growth. The fiddlehead, the young, coiled fronds of ferns, represents renewal and transformation, as it uncurls into its full form.

Fiddleheads are a timeless symbol of nature’s resilience, and their organic spiral shape is often seen as a representation of the energy of life, evolution, and the perpetual movement of seasons. In this piece, the opposing fiddleheads create a dynamic balance, evoking harmony between two forces in nature.

Crafted from Corten steel, the sculptures take on a natural, weathered patina that complements the earthy symbolism of the fiddlehead. Over time, the steel will continue to evolve with the elements, much like the plants they represent, further deepening the connection between art and nature.
